How Kompare works
What happens to your details, who we pass them to, and how we get paid.
Free to use · No obligation · Last updated October 2026
In short
Kompare is free to use. We pass your details to specialist UK insurance brokers, and a broker calls you with quotes. The brokers we introduce you to pay us a fee for the introduction. You are under no obligation to buy anything.
What happens to your details
- You tell us what you need. You pick the type of cover and answer a few questions. For vehicles we look up the make and model from the registration, so there is less to type. It takes about two minutes.
- You give us your contact details. We ask for your name, phone number and email address so that a broker can get in touch with you.
- We pass them to specialist brokers. We send your answers and contact details to one or more UK insurance brokers who arrange that type of cover. Which brokers depends on the cover you ask for.
- A broker contacts you. The broker gets in touch, usually by phone, to check your details and go through the quotes they can offer. Brokers usually call during working hours.
- You decide. Ask questions, ask for changes, or say no thanks. Nothing is bought until you agree it with the broker. Any policy you take out is between you, the broker and the insurer.
Who we pass your details to
We pass your details to UK insurance brokers that are authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority. A broker is a firm that arranges insurance with insurers for you. The brokers we work with specialise in particular kinds of cover, such as vans, taxis, the motor trade or homes.
The broker will tell you who they are when they get in touch, and their documents will show their own FCA details. You can check any firm on the Financial Services Register.
What it costs you
Nothing. Using Kompare is free, and there is no obligation to take a quote or buy a policy.
How we get paid
The brokers we introduce you to pay us a fee for the introduction. That is how Kompare makes its money.
We do not charge you anything. If you have a question about how we are paid, email us at compliance@kompare.co.uk.
Your data
We use your details to find you quotes, as set out in our privacy notice. It explains what we collect and why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and your rights, including how to ask us to stop contacting you.
