Taxi fleet insurance
Taxi fleet insurance puts two or more taxis under one policy. What it can cover, the details you'll need and how the levels of cover compare.
If you run a taxi business with several vehicles, every one of them needs insurance before it goes on the road. Insuring each car separately can be time-consuming and hard to keep track of, which is why many operators put all their vehicles under one taxi fleet policy.
Taxi fleet insurance is available for all kinds of taxi businesses, so whatever mix of vehicles you run, they can usually be covered together.
A fleet policy can cover a range of things, including loss or damage to your vehicles, breakdown, replacement vehicle costs and help with legal and medical costs after an accident, depending on the cover you choose.
With Kompare, you fill in a short form and a specialist FCA-authorised broker from our panel contacts you to talk through your fleet and quotes. You can read more on our taxi insurance and fleet insurance pages, or see how we work.
What details do I need to provide?
When you ask for a quote, you'll usually be asked for the following.
Details of the vehicles
You don't need to know the exact model of each taxi. Registration numbers are normally enough to look up the details.
No claims bonus (NCB)
You'll be asked about your no claims history. Your current insurer can give you proof if you need it.
Named drivers
If the policy covers named drivers, you'll need their personal and licence details.
Licence details
You'll be asked what type of licence each driver holds and how long they've held it.
Previous claims
You'll need to say whether there have been any accidents or claims in the last five years.
Driving convictions
If any driver has penalty points or disqualifications, you'll need to give the full details.
What are the different levels of cover?
When you take out taxi fleet insurance, you'll choose one of three levels of cover.
Fully comprehensive
This is the highest level of cover. It includes everything in third party, fire and theft, and also covers damage to your own vehicles, even if an accident was your driver's fault.
Third party, fire and theft
This covers you if your driver is responsible for injury to other people, including passengers, or damage to their property. It also covers your vehicles if they're stolen or damaged by fire. It won't pay for repairs to your own vehicles after an at-fault accident.
Third party only
This is the most basic level of cover and the minimum required by law. It pays for injury to others and damage to other vehicles and property, but there is no cover for your own vehicles.
