Traders insurance
What traders insurance is, who needs it, the difference between road risks and combined cover, and the details you need to get a quote.
Finding traders insurance used to be complicated, which left many traders frustrated. Kompare makes it simpler: whether you are a part-time mechanic or run a multi-site dealership, you fill in one short form and a specialist broker contacts you about cover that suits your business.
What is traders insurance?
Traders insurance, also called motor trade insurance, covers a wide range of businesses that work with vehicles, and policies can be tailored to the individual business.
When a business deals with customers' vehicles, it takes those vehicles into its possession. Traders insurance provides cover for businesses that have a customer's vehicle in their care, custody or control, as well as for those involved in buying and selling vehicles.
The two main types of policy
Road risks only
Road risks cover is for driving vehicles in connection with your trade, including customers' vehicles and your own stock. It suits traders without business premises.
Combined
Combined cover adds protection for your premises to road risks, such as buildings, tools, stock and liability. It suits businesses with a garage, workshop or showroom.
Getting a quote
You fill in a short form, and a specialist FCA-authorised broker from our panel contacts you to talk about quotes. If you go ahead, your policy is arranged with that broker.
