Valeter insurance
Valeter insurance for professional valeters, detailers and mobile car cleaners: what it covers, who needs it and road risks versus combined cover.
As a valeter, your customers are trusting you with one of their most valuable possessions. That means you need to protect yourself in case something happens to their vehicle while it's in your care.
Valeter insurance is designed for people who work as valeters from a premises, from home or as a mobile valeter. If you clean members of the public's vehicles for a living, this type of cover is designed for you.
Accidents can happen when you least expect them. A generic business policy may not fit the way you work. Valeting is a specialist part of the motor trade, so it makes sense to shape your policy around what your business actually does.
Kompare helps valeters find specialist motor trade cover. You fill in a short form and a specialist FCA-authorised broker from our panel contacts you to talk through your needs and quotes. You can read more on our motor trade insurance page or see how we work.
What are the different policy types?
When you take out valeter insurance, you'll usually choose between two levels of cover.
Road risks
This covers the vehicles in your possession when they're on the road, for example collecting a vehicle from a customer or returning it once the job is done.
Road risks and premises cover
A combined policy is designed for valeters who run their business from a premises. It's also worth considering if you employ staff, keep stock or store vehicles overnight.
Things to think about
When you arrange cover, it can help to have the following in mind:
- whether you work from a unit, from home, on the move, or a mix of these
- the tools, equipment and products you'd want covered
- whether you drive customers' vehicles, and how far
- whether you employ anyone, as employers' liability cover is generally a legal requirement if you do (GOV.UK)
- whether you'd like public liability cover in case a customer or member of the public makes a claim
Not sure which policy you need?
If you're unsure which type of cover suits your business, get in touch and we can help with any questions. The broker who contacts you can also explain the options before you decide.
Other motor trade roles
Many roles in the motor trade overlap. If you also sell, repair or deliver vehicles, mention it when you fill in the form so your cover reflects the work you do. Our motor trade insurance page covers the full range of trades.
